Hello, friends! It’s been a while since I last posted, but I’ve been working on a lot of things in the background…including finding a new job! It still feels surreal, but I am starting my dream job in affordable housing asset management in a little over a week, and I couldn’t be more excited! Commercial real estate brokerage (the field I interned in three times and worked in full-time for a little over a year post-grad) was a great industry for learning, and I feel so blessed to have been able to use that experience to get a job with a greater mission and purpose behind it.
I haven’t talked about my career much on here, but my educational background is in Political Science, Business Economics, and Real Estate. I was able to explore the affordable housing industry through some really impactful courses in my Real Estate minor at Notre Dame, and I’ve known ever since then that it was a field I wanted to break into. My deepest career desire lies in helping to provide dignified affordable housing to those in need, to help build up communities rather than tear them down, and to help give people a safe and comfortable place to call home.
I know I still have a lot to learn to help do that effectively, but I am thrilled to be learning and training alongside such a dedicated and personable team of professionals in this space. I have been praying for an opportunity like this for such a long time, and I am so thankful that my prayers were answered in this way. God’s timing is truly perfect, and I can’t wait to start!
This will be my first in-person office job post-grad (and really, ever), so I’ve been doing a lot of preparation since I signed my job offer. Since I’m used to working from home in leggings and sweaters, I’ve been putting together a whole new wardrobe for my business casual office (thank you, thrift stores!) and figuring out everything I’ll need to be away for 8+ hours a day. I have a ton of blog posts planned to document everything, so check back for details on my work bag, must-have office supplies, desk decor ideas, work outfits, tips for your first week, and more.
I can’t wait to share!
Love from Indiana,
Malia
