Hi, friends! I’m so excited for this post! I’ve been having so much fun shopping for our little one’s nursery these past few weeks, so I figured I’d share some of the designs that have been inspiring my vision for the space.
Since we’re waiting to be surprised with Baby Mears’s gender, I decided to match the color scheme of the nursery to the rest of our home instead of focusing on a gender-specific theme. So, I’m drawing in various shades of blue and green and accenting with brass and gold. I want the room to be classic, comfortable, and most importantly – not cluttered!
So far, I think my biggest challenge is that our new apartment has brown walls, brown carpet, and black doors. It’s not the light and airy look that I usually go for, but I think bringing in a lot of white with the furniture and linens will help to brighten the space. I can’t wait to share how things come together after we move in June!
Now, for the fun part…here are a few of my favorite designs from my Pinterest board and the ideas they’re giving me for our nursery:
Source: Elisabeth & Butter // What I love about Elisabeth’s design here is that it’s a nursery, but it looks like a space designed with adults in mind. The colors are light and sophisticated, and this cozy little corner looks like the perfect place for contact naps and nursing! The traditional pleated lampshade blends so nicely with the more contemporary patterns of the curtains and rug, and I’m looking for a similar lampshade for our brass floor lamp.
Source: Melissa Haynes // I love how bright this room is! To counter the brown tones of the carpet in the nursery, I think I’ll opt for as big of a rug as I can get – either in ivory or light beige. I also think the blue crib bows are just adorable. I know crib liners aren’t recommended, so I think I’ll skip that item, but I’m planning to sew two large blue bows that can be affixed to the corners of the crib.
Source: Mackenzie Horan // I love the arched mirror above the changing table/dresser! We have a beveled mirror above our current bar cabinet that has a very similar shape, and I’m planning on repurposing it for the nursery. We’d like a dresser that’s a bit wider and larger so it will grow with our baby, but I do love the style of this one. Even if we have to take on another refinishing project, I know I want a white dresser with brass drawer pulls – it’s youthful and bright while still being sophisticated. I think dimmable brass wall sconces on either side of the mirror would be a nice touch!
Source: Being Bridget // I love how neutral Bridget went with her son’s nursery because it allows the colorful accents, like books and toys, to really pop. It’s such a great way to incorporate bright, fun colors without making the space feel overwhelming.
Source: Molly Basile Interiors // The decorative trim on the drapes is such a sweet touch and a great way to add some color to otherwise neutral drapery! I found a beautiful greek key trim that I’m currently working on adding to a set of white blackout curtains, and I love how they’re looking so far. I think small details like that really make a huge difference in a space. Also, can we talk about that Serena & Lily clover side table? So adorable!
And that’s a wrap! This has by far been one of the most exciting parts of prepping for Baby Mears, and it’s been so fun working on little DIY projects and bringing my vision to life. I can’t wait to show y’all how our nursery comes together!
Love from Indiana,
Malia
