AHHH!! They’re here!!
I can’t tell y’all how excited I am about this post! We had our engagement shoot with our lovely photographer, Erika Geier, on January 4th, and it was such a dream! The weather in Houston was perfect – cool with a light breeze, and not humid at all – which is definitely not a usual occasion!
I started the afternoon by getting my hair and makeup trial done by my artist from Sunny Hair and Makeup Artistry, who also happens to be named Erica! She made me feel so beautiful, and I loved getting to see how my wedding day makeup would look with our photographer’s editing style!
We shot two different looks – one more casual and one more formal – so I figured I’d start out by sharing our casual look today. I’ll be sharing our dressier look next week, so be on the lookout for the second reveal!
I’ll meet you at the bottom of the post for a few of my thoughts on the entire experience, and let you get to scrolling!
Enjoy!

I seriously could not contain my excitement when I got the text from Erika that she’d be sending over my gallery link! There were tears…many tears. Jacob and I wouldn’t really consider ourselves to be particularly comfortable in front of the camera (we’re just really not great at posing ourselves in a non-awkward way!), but Erika worked some serious magic.
She gave us fair warning that some of the things she was going to ask us to do would feel silly, but that the final product would be amazing, and we were completely on board. I definitely know we couldn’t have posed any better ourselves, and she made us feel so natural and comfortable throughout the entire process!
I looked through countless engagement photo ideas, articles, outfits, and tips before our session, but at the end of the day, I really just wanted our shoot to capture our relationship as it is – lighthearted, playful, and a little silly!
I didn’t want to take it too seriously (I decided on this outfit the night before!), and I think that mindset really went a long way. We let loose, let Erika guide us through everything, and just had fun together! It really is one of my favorite memories from our entire engagement season so far, and if you’re a bride-to-be planning your own wedding, I 100% recommend having an engagement shoot with your photographer before the wedding day.
You get to know your photographer, they get to know you and your relationship dynamic, and you also get a ton of beautiful, professional photos to hang up around your house – it’s a win-win all around!
I hope y’all enjoyed getting a little sneak peak into our gallery, and I can’t wait to share the dressy look with you next week! If you have any questions about engagement sessions or our photographer, Erika, let me know in the comments below!
fondly,
Malia

These are such beautiful photos! I love that you didn’t get too worked up or overly prepared ahead of time. Having a laid-back, chill mindset going into couple’s photos is so important. I can’t wait to see how your more formal shots turned out as well, now that I know how gorgeous these are!
